AFTER Baguio General Hospital and Luis Hora Memorial Hospital in Buguias, the third Cordillera hospital to be approved by the government as a COVID-19 testing laboratory is the Benguet General Hospital Molecular Laboratory.
BeGH was recently licensed to operate RT-PCR testing from February 16 to December 31, 2021 by the Department of Health.
“Finally, our prayers were answered! The much awaited accreditation of the BeGH Molecular Laboratory has been approved!” said Benguet caretaker, Rep. Eric Go Yap, of ACT-CIS Partylist.
“We’ve been very patient throughout the whole process of accreditation and it took a while but finally it’s here. This is one huge step towards our goal of curbing the pandemic that has totally brought our people and our economy in shambles. We can now take a more aggressive approach in dealing with the Covid-19 virus through massive testing in Benguet and in nearby provinces,” Yap said.
“Now, we’ll facilitate enough support in terms of logistics, testing kits, and consumables. We will also shift our focus in securing vaccines for our people. We did not lose our patience and hope then, we are not about to start losing it now and I will firmly stand behind this drive to achieve a COVID-19 free Benguet. Our donations were not wasted and it pales in comparison to the emotions that we have right now seeing this facility approved for testing,” he added.
The laboratory was operational last December after its opening last November.
The molecular laboratory has its own Reverse Polymerase Chain Reaction (RT-PCR) and automated extraction machines after it was retrieved from the Baguio General Hospital and Medical Center (BGHMC).
The machines at BGHMC were also replaced to as to be able to continue its operation as a Covid-19 sub-national testing center.
