THE plans for a P400 million parking building at the space of the former Baguio City Fire Department have been finalized and are set to commence.
City Administrator Engr. Bonifacio dela Peña said that they have finalized the plan for the parking building near the City Hall.
The fire department began moving to their new office in Purok 11, Apugan, Barangay Irisan, on September 28 to give way to the project.
Fire Marshall Superintendent Nestor Gorio said that the former headquarters near the city hall were advantageous for the operations of the fire department as it has greater access to the city, in particular being in the central business district, allowing the department to respond to fires in the area within seven minutes.
However, Gorio assured that despite the increased distance of the fire department in the new location in Irisan, they will continue to respond promptly to fire incidents in the city.
Dela Peña meanwhile said that the city will ensure an allotment for the fire department’s trucks in the new parking building to allow for quick response.
Dela Peña also added that the location is ideal for use as parking space due to its proximity to the central business district.
The parking space is expected to pull traffic away from the city hall and the Baguio City Public Market once opened.
