NEARLY fifty million pesos worth of funding has been eyed for the conduct of barangay development projects in the city.

As part of the 2021 Annual Investment Plan (AIP), a total of P45 million has been allotted for the city’s 128 barangays’ development projects.

According to City Planning and Development Coordinator Donna Rillera-Tabangin, the fund is expected to cover 134 priority barangay projects in 2021. Said projects were prioritized in talks with barangay captains from the city’s 128 barangays.

The fund will come from the expected 1 billion pesos worth of Internal Revenue Allotment (IRA) for the city in the coming year.

However, the 20 percent development fund from the IRA will not be enough for the city’s other development projects after the chunk for barangay development was allotted.

According to Tabangin, the initial projections overshot the provided fund by P83 million.

While nearly P239 million worth of development projects in the city were identified, only P156 million was made available from the IRA after the allotment for barangay development

Tabangin said that they have instead met with the City Engineering, City Environment and Parks Management, and the City Building and Architecture Offices to prioritize specific projects and trim down the project list to fit within the available funding.
