THE provincial government of Benguet has hired some 147 teachers for both primary and secondary levels of education to augment the province’s existing teaching force ahead of the expected return to full face-to-face classes in November.

According to Benguet Governor Melchor Diclas, the newly-hired teachers under the Provincial School Board (PSB) will be spread out amongst 80 elementary and secondary schools across the province’s 13 towns for school year 2022-2023.

The 147 teachers hired is the largest number hired under the program of the provincial government since its inception.

Last year, under the same program, the province hired 60 teachers, while only 25 have been hired in the previous years.

Diclas said that the hiring will augment the lack of teachers in the national roll of the Department of Education (DepEd) in the coming face-to-face operations in November.

PSB teachers are set to receive P15,000 monthly honorarium with a contract ending in December, but is renewable every January as funds are allotted on a calendar-year-basis.

Diclas said that the hiring of PSBs will also help the teachers themselves, providing fresh teachers with experience and skills that can be used when applying for permanent teaching positions in the future.
