The annual election for the biggest media club in this part of the country will be held on January 29, current Baguio Correspondents and Broadcasters Club (BCBC Inc) President Thomas Picana announced last week.
During a meeting presided over by 2025 Commission on Elections Chair Miguelito Velarde, Jr. last Monday, Jan. 20, with the members composed of former presidents Delmar Carino and Jordan and Joseph Zambrano, decided to stage the polls on Wednesday, Jan. 29, from 9 AM until 3 PM at the Benguet Electric Cooperative board room.
The Comelec further reminded the voting members to pay their annual due of P500 before casting their vote. Voting members, said the announcement, are: “active member(s) of the club (BCBC) for the past ONE (1) year.”
It also reminded members seeking a seat for the seven officers and four board members must file a notarized certificate of candidacy, which will be submitted by 5 PM on January 27 at Luisa’s Café and addressed to Velarde.
The announcement likewise reminded candidates running for the presidency should not be the president of any other media club.
Two active members are reportedly seeking the top post to replace Picana: veteran photojournalist David Leprozo, Jr. against the much younger Dionisio Dennis, Jr. of DZWT – DZWR.
Picana’s administration had accomplished much, including the revival of the Eco-Walk at the Busol Watershed that has a committee that include as members Art Tibaldo, Joseph Zambrano, this writer and Picana, among others; the formal adoption via a memorandum of agreement with the city government of the Burnham Park’s picnic grove which is used as the Media Camp for the Lucky Summer Visitors, and Media Golf which is aims to raise funds for the medical insurance of club members.
