Councilor Leandro B Yangot, Jr has filed a proposal to the Baguio City Council to make the installation of bidets in all toilets across all public and private establishments in the city mandatory.
According to Yangot, the installation of bidets would improve the overall quality and level of sanitation in the city.
He said a toilet must not only be clean but also have a supply of running water that can be used for flushing and washing hands, as well as a bidet.
The ordinance would also see the tighter monitoring of sanitation in establishments, with bathroom cleanliness being grounds for potential penalties.
Once the ordinance is approved, violators who fail to comply with the heightened sanitation requirements will be fined up to P2,000 pesos per violation, with repeat violations being grounds for the non-renewal of business permits until compliance.
Additionally, he said proper lighting and safety features such as non-slip flooring and grab bars must be installed for persons with disabilities (PWDs) and senior citizens.
