The Benguet Provincial Health Office (PHO) has logged a significantly increased number of dengue cases in the first quarter of 2025 compared to 2024.
Benguet, according to its PHO, has seen some 316 cases of dengue already in the first quarter of the year, up 17% from 267 in the same time period last year.
The capital town of La Trinidad had the highest number with 68, followed by Tublay with 47, and Kapangan with 43 infections. No dengue-related deaths have so far been reported in the province.
The latest Department of Health (DOH) data shows a total of 740 dengue cases in the region in its entirety just from the start of January 1, only 5% lower than the high figures last year.
Benguet accounts for the single largest chunk of dengue in the region with its 316 cases, while Baguio City has had at least 171 cases, with the two accounting for at least half of the region’s dengue incidence.
The Department of Interior and Local Government (DILG) has already released two circulars addressing the dengue problem: Memorandum Circular (MC) 2019-176, which provides the guidelines for the conduct of the “Sabayang 4 o’clock Habit para Deng-Get Out,” a prior DOH campaign for the community-wide removal of dengue breeding grounds every four in the afternoon, and 2012-016, which promotes the “Aksyon Barangay Kontra Dengue” program at the barangay level.
