The target number of planted trees set by the Urban Forestry Management Division (UFMD) of Baguio City for 2024 has been met and significantly exceeded, according to City Environment and Parks Management Office (CEPMO) data.

In 2024, the UFMD set a target of planting 10,000 seedlings throughout the year for the city to replenish its green cover.

CEPMO data shows that a total of 13,198 seedlings were planted and accounted for, largely in part of the Pine Tree or Saleng Festival and the city’s ongoing push for environmental renewal.

Participants numbering 10,251 helped in last year’s mass planting activities, coming from schools, government agencies, local businesses, and local villages.

Trees planted range from fruit-bearing trees, fruitless trees, to various pine species, planted in various public spaces throughout the city, in school grounds, and in some cases, in private properties of participating private individual residents.

With the trees planted, the city is now monitoring the seedlings’ conditions, aiming for an 80 percent seedling survival rate.

The city is also aiming to distribute as many as 400 seedlings a month to the public for free as part of its sustainability goals.
