Two separate fire incidents have rung in the new year of 2025, with a fire in neighboring Tuba town and a fire in the Baguio central business district breaking out on January 1st and December 29th of last year respectively.

Around 9:30 in the evening on December 29, a fire consumed four stalls in the Baguio City public market.

Initial investigations found that the market fire was caused by electrical overloading from improperly managed cables and extension cords.

While the fire was put out within 11 minutes and caused minimal damage, the Tuba fire was significantly more damaging.

On January 1st, fire struck the Riverside Compound in Barangay Camp 6 along Kennon Road in Tuba at around 1:20 AM.

Though residents attempted to control the fire, early morning winds spread the blaze to other residences from its starting point in an abandoned house in the compound.

According to Camp 6 barangay officials, 24 houses were damaged, affecting 37 families or 155 individuals.

The cause of the fire is still under investigation, and the Bureau of Fire Protection (BFP) has yet to assess the total damage.
