Baguio’s infrastructure project completion rate has slipped from the previous year, from 81 percent successful completion to 71 percent this year, with 29 percent of ongoing projects in 2024 still pending.

Some of the projects that have not been completed this year include the Athletic Bowl tennis court, the P80 million Wright Park overhaul, and the nearly P391 million Youth Convergence Center (YCC).

The YCC has been an ongoing point of concern and controversy for Baguio Mayor Benjamin Magalong, as its continued delays, supposed procedural issues, and subsequent Commission on Audit (COA) flagging have led to a suit against the chief executive, alleging graft and corruption.

However, Magalong assured that the COA has since cleared the project and that it is slated to continue as early as the first quarter of next year.

“We had the YCC rebid 26 days ago, but we checked the paperwork again and found that there were some deficiencies, so we rebid it yesterday,” Magalong said on Wednesday, Dec. 11.

In addition to the YCC, the P80 million Wright Park infrastructure upgrade that includes new stables and a multipurpose hall is scheduled for rebidding on December 21, after it stalled out due to its previous contractor failing to meet project quality standards.

Work on the tennis court at the Athletic Bowl is also slated to resume by February.
