Cordillera Regional Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (RDRRMC) tallies indicate that some 1,488 families have been “adversely affected” by heavy rains, landslides, and flooding in Typhoon Carina’s wake.
The 1,488 families have sustained some form of damage, hailing from 39 barangays in Abra, Benguet and Mountain Province in the region, according to the RDRRMC report on Thursday. 33 families have been displaced by the storm.
No houses have been reported destroyed, but 12 throughout the region have sustained significant damage.
While no casualties have been reported to date, the typhoon has dealt infrastructure damage to the provinces in its path, causing the closure of multiple road networks, including Kennon Road.
In Baguio alone, 12 landslide incidents have been recorded, with 3 tagged as “major” landslide incidents.
Many landslides have also been recorded along national roads throughout the region, with multiple Benguet roads having temporarily closed for clearing operations.
At its peak, Carina brought 299 millimeters of rainfall in a single day as recorded in Baguio City. The volume of rainfall has caused flooding incidents in the city, and forced the Ambuklao and Binga dams in Benguet to release water in order to ease up pressure on the reservoirs.
