IN a bid to address the growing need for water in the city, the Baguio Water District (BWD) has opened up two new well-drilling projects in its water supply augmentation program, with initial results and yields being very “promising”.

BWD General Manager Salvador Royeca reported that the deep well drilled in Gibraltar barangay earlier this year in February, one of two new wells, has produced a “very high yield” as observed in a pumping test conducted recently.

The other new well along Kennon Road, also commenced in February, has also shown promising results and is 81 percent complete and should be operational soon, Royeca said.

He also said that there are three more well drilling projects in the pipeline, including a drilling project along Kisad Road, another in South Drive which will augment the supply of Honeymoon-Holyghost barangay, and the Richwood project which will benefit the subdivision at Easter Road-Guisad as well as the adjacent barangays like Quirino Hill, Pinget and Quezon Hill.

“A potential drilling site along Balacbac is also being evaluated which will provide additional supply to areas served by the Km. 8 reservoir,” Royeca said.

Royeca said these projects are just some of the district’s water supply augmentation and development projects lined up “to reduce the impact of the pronounced 2024 El Niño phenomenon.”
