FOLLOWING the turnover of a P1 million Rabbit Multiplier Farm (RMF) in Irisan village last month in August, the Department of Agriculture (DA)’s Livestock Economic Enterprise Development (LEED) program is funding another RMF in the city.

The city council recently adopted Resolution no. 485, series of 2023, authorizing Mayor Benjamin Magalong, representing the city government of Baguio, to enter into a tripartite memorandum of agreement (MOA) with the Department of Agriculture (DA) and the Bilis Sto. Tomas Central Farmers Livelihood Association for the LEED project’s implementation of a new rabbit farm.

Under the MOA, the LEED project will establish another P1 million RMF in Sto. Tomas Central, Baguio City, to be operated and managed by members of the Bilis Sto. Tomas Central Farmers Livelihood Association.

DA-CAR Livestock Program Coordinator Dr. Kevin Jim Luna explained that the purpose of the establishment of multiplier farms around the region is for the FCAs to cater to the supply of rabbits for the other farmer groups who would like to venture into the rabbitry business.

The MOA is now subject to confirmation from the local legislative body, with the stipulation that the City Veterinary and Agriculture Office (CVAO) must monitor the project closely and send regular reports on its implementation and activity.
