AFTER an agonizing three-year hiatus brought about by the unrelenting grip of the pandemic, the Baguio-Benguet Educational Athletic League (BBEAL) is hopeful of its return, thanks to the unwavering determination of Benguet State University (BSU) and the collective will of other participating schools.

For those who aren’t familiar with BBEAL, it’s more than just a sports league; it’s a testament to the rich athletic culture and heritage of Baguio-Benguet.

This competition has served as a breeding ground for some of the most exceptional athletes in the Philippines, offering a platform where raw talents are honed into champions.

The pandemic might have forced us to hit the pause button, but the athletes of BBEAL never stopped dreaming.

They continued training, adapting, and staying in shape for the day when the league would return to bring life back to the playing fields. Now, as we gather once more to celebrate this resurgence of athletic spirit, it’s evident that the wait was worth it.

BBEAL’s return after three years is not just about sports; it’s a testament to the resilience of our communities. In the face of adversity, our athletes, coaches, and organizers never lost hope. They worked tirelessly behind the scenes, navigating the challenges of the pandemic, to ensure that this beloved league would rise from the ashes stronger than ever.

BSU, in particular, deserves applause for its dedication to this cause. They have played a pivotal role in reviving the league, serving as both its backbone and heart.

Other member schools of the BBEAL are the Baguio Central University, Baguio College of Technology, Cordillera Career Development College, Kings College of the Philippines, Philippine Military Academy, Pines City Colleges, University of Baguio, University of the Cordilleras, University of the Philippines – Baguio, and Saint Louis University.

One of the most beautiful aspects of BEBAL is its ability to unite people from different backgrounds through sports.

The league is not just about competition; it’s about forging friendships, building character, and celebrating the diversity of our region. Athletes from various schools, each with their unique strengths and talents, come together to showcase their skills and create memories that will last a lifetime.

From the basketball courts to the track and field, from volleyball to chess, BBEAL encompasses a wide range of sports, ensuring that there’s something for everyone. This inclusivity is what makes the league so special, and it’s a tradition that must continue to thrive.

Furthermore, the return of BBEAL serves as a beacon of hope for other sports leagues and events that have been put on hold due to the pandemic.

The return of BBEAL is more than just a sporting event; it’s a celebration of the human spirit’s indomitable will to overcome adversity. It’s a reminder of the power of sports to unite communities, celebrate diversity, and shape the character of our youth.
