BAGUIO City officials led the groundbreaking for a new “super” health center in Atab, Baguio, the second of its kind to date.

The health center, partly funded by the Department of Health (DOH), is worth P70 million, nearly three times the cost of its predecessor in Barangay Aurora Hill that was established this year.

The previous health center in Aurora Hill cost only P28 million in comparison to the more ambitious Atab facility.

In addition to the P70 million for the infrastructure of the building itself, another P5 million is set for the purchase of appropriate equipment for the health center.

Funding was sourced from the DOH through the Health Facility Enhancement Program (HFEP), which also provided P10 million of funding for the Aurora Hill super health center.

However, only P13 million of the Atab center is funded by the DOH, with the city shouldering the remaining P57 million worth to establish the facility.

According to Baguio Mayor Benjamin Magalong, the Aurora Hill Health Center served as a model facility and benchmark for other health centers in the region, such as the Atab center.
