CITING continued illegal dumping of oil into the city’s drainages, Baguio Mayor Benjamin Magalong has warned businesses, particularly those near Burnham Park that business licenses may be revoked if said establishments continue their illegal activities.
According to Magalong, there are reports from concerned residents that food establishments near Burnham Park are illegally disposing of their used oil in the city’s drainage system under cover of night.
Having been appropriately informed of the situation, Magalong has tasked City Environment and Parks Management Office (CEPMO) Officer-in-Charge Engr. Marivic Empizo to personally apprise establishment owners of the warnings and order them to cease their dumping immediately, lest their business licenses be revoked.
“I will not hesitate to have all the establishments in that area closed if they continue to dump their used oil irresponsibly even if it is during the city’s Panagbenga celebration. They have already been given repeated warnings,” Magalong said.
Dumping grease and used oil in canals and waterways is illegal and faces penalties for violating Republic Act 6969 or the Toxic Substances and Hazardous and Nuclear Waste Control Act of 1990.
