THE Benguet State University (BSU) has started work on the establishment of a College of Medicine with an initial P45 million fund from Senator Pia Cayetano under the 2023 General Appropriations Act (GAA).
BSU President Felipe Comila said that P25 million of the fund would go to equipment, and P10 million each would go to furniture and personnel.
According to Comila, the university’s main struggle with the establishment of the College of Medicine is the construction of the structure itself. The BSU, Comila said, will submit its plans to Cayetano’s office for further funding.
Pending the construction of the college building, students in the new program will be housed in the new building of the BSU College of Nursing. Some 50 students are enrolled in the program to date, with the BSU expecting to receive more as the program is continued and established.
The BSU is also currently recruiting and screening the appropriate faculty members for the newly-established college, which is slated to be opened as early as August of this year.
The BSU College of Medicine was established in accordance with Benguet Representative Eric Yap’s House Bill 312, which was passed in 2022.
