THREE passengers were killed and 20 others were wounded when the Victory Liner bus they were riding in crashed. The management of the bus firm has assured that they will provide appropriate aid and compensation to the victims and their families.

On Tuesday, January 3, the Quezon City-bound Victory Liner bus suffered mechanical trouble and rammed into a tree along Palispis-Aspiras Highway in Sitio Ambiongan, Barangay Cares.

Mayor Kurt Walter Martin identified the fatalities as Josefino Rambaoa, bus conductor, a native of San Fabian, Pangasinan; Hydelene Hufular, 23, a resident of San Fernando City, La Union and Mervilyn Lagmay, 26, and a resident of Mandaluyong City.

15 of the passengers were treated for minor injuries at the Pugo rural health center, while another five were rushed to the La Union Medical Center. One of the five died while being provided medical attention.

Arnel Gabaig, Victory Liner terminal master in Baguio City, together with some personnel of the bus company, visited the victims to provide for their needs.

According to Gabaig, the company will shoulder all medical expenses of the passengers as well as provide compensation to the families of the three dead.

Initial investigations indicate that the accident was caused by a malfunction of the hydro brake system of the bus.
