THE second tranche of the minimum wage hike for the Cordillera Administrative Region (CAR) has been implemented at the start of the new year.

Under Republic Act 6727, or the Wage Rationalization Act, the Regional Tripartite Wage Board (RTPWB) public hearings were conducted across the CAR to assess the appropriate wage rates for minimum wage earners in the region.

The Trade Union Congress of the Philippines (TUCP) initially in May filed a petition to hike the minimum wage to P410 a day.

The RTPWB, effective January 1, has hiked the minimum wage across the region to P400, up from the initial tranche of wage increase last year which set wages to P380.

The wage increase applies to all minimum wage earners in the private sector in the region, regardless of position, designation, or payment methods.

Retail and service establishments employing less than 11 workers as well as establishments adversely affected by natural or human-induced calamities and disasters can apply for exemption from complying with the minimum wage order.

The hike is set to properly take effect a full15 days from its publication in newspapers in the region for general circulation.
