FOLLOWING temporary operations for only inbound Baguio City traffic in the wake of Typhoon Paeng, Kennon Road has been reopened to two-way traffic on November 7, Monday.

“With the recent developments in the road rehabilitation and major road section improvements in Kennon Road, being one of the major national roads in Baguio City-Benguet, and after thorough inspection and discussion by the members of the Joint Inter-Agency Task Force Kennon (JIATF Kennon), Kennon Road will now be opened two-way, inbound and outbound for all motorists and road users, residents and non-residents,” the advisory issued by the JIATF Kennon reads.

However, the JIATF Kennon stipulates that the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) can, in case of inclement weather, and detected ground shaking or earthquakes that may trigger landslides or rockfalls, order the closure of the road.

Kennon Road was previously opened after Typhoon Paeng, but only for Baguio-bound non-resident traffic once road clearing operations cleaned up debris along the national road.

The road is also set to begin further rehabilitation in 2023, intended to turn the road into an “all-weather road” that can be passable to locals and tourists 24 hours a day, seven days a week, and 365 days a year.
