THE Department of Social Welfare and Development Cordillera office (DSWD-CAR) has funded a short-term income generating cash-for-work project across all of Abra’s 27 municipalities.
The DSWD-CAR has allotted some P174 million for the entire project, with the program to start on a smaller scale in eight out of the 27 towns in the province.
“We have finalized the memorandum of agreement with eight municipalities out of the 27 which is worth PHP65 million. We are good to go with the eight towns,” Amelyn Cabrera, DSWD-CAR assistant director for operations, said Wednesday.
The program will be first rolled out in the towns of Bucay, Lagangilang, Licuan-Baay, Bangued, Salapadan, Tineg, Villaviciosa and San Isidro.
Cash-for-work programs are temporary employment programs where individuals are tapped for community preparedness, mitigation, relief, rehabilitation or risk reduction projects and paid for their work.
Under the program, different amounts are allotted for each municipality, with workers tapped receiving P380 a day for up to 90 days.
“This is a short-term income generation but the project implementation still uses the CDD (community-driven development) approach of planning, intervention, and identification of project,” Cabrera said, adding that the work to be done by the beneficiaries will be identified by their respective communities.
The cash-for-work program in the towns that have already finalized the pact with the DSWD will start this November and will run until May 2023.
