Paeng leaves 10,257 displaced in Cordillera

SOME 10,257 individuals or 2,400 families in the Cordillera Administrative Region (CAR) were affected by Typhoon Paeng, according to initial reports from the Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD).

Abra was hit to the tune of 25 barangays “greatly affected” by the storm. The barangays were in four of its towns, namely, Bangued, Licuan-Baay, Malibcong and Tineg.

Elsewhere in the region, the hit villages were barangay Conner in Apayao; Tinoc in Ifugao; seven barangays in the towns of Pasil, Tabuk City, Pinukpuk, Balbalan in Kalinga; and ten barangays in the towns of Besao, Sadanga, Tadian, Paracelis and Natonin in Mt Province.

While no deaths or injuries have been reported to date, one person was reported missing in Balbalan, Kalinga.

The storm also left behind 14 road closures in the region. Kennon Road had been opened to traffic after it was cleared of debris, but only for Baguio City-bound vehicles.

The Apayao-Ilocos Norte and Claveria-Calanasan-Kabugao roads remained closed to traffic due to landslides and road damage.

Gov. Dangwa National Road, Cong. Andres Acop road and Benguet-Nueva Vizcaya Road are still closed in the province of Benguet.

The Kiangan-Tinoc-Buguias road, the Banaue-Hungduan-Benguet Boundary road and Banaue-Mayoyao-Alfonso Lista-Isabela Boundary are closed in the province of Ifugao.

Lubuagan-Batong Buhay-Abra Road, Mt. Province-Calanan-Pinukpuk-Abbut road, Balbalan –Pinukpuk road and Kalinga-Abra road are also closed to traffic in the province of Kalinga.

Baguio-Bontoc road, Mt.Province-Cagayan via Tabuk-Enrile Road are also closed to traffic.
