THE Paleng-QR or cashless payment system in the Baguio City Public Market has officially been launched.

Mayor Benjamin Magalong said offline cash transactions at the city market started this month, with the current available cashless payment systems, including GCash and Maya.

The system is still to be expanded, with online transactions like Online Marketplace and delivery to be handled by Unionbank with a target launch date in October. Landbank will meanwhile take charge of e-gov cashless online transactions by the end of September.

“We, in the city, are in shared solidarity in expressing our profound gratitude and our overall sense of pride as we have been chosen as the pilot city for the launching of the Paleng – QR Program. This is very much in line with our programs to transform the city into a Smart and Sustainable City by 2025,” Magalong said.

According to Magalong, the project is aligned with the city’s own digitalization agenda, and will help improve the city’s collection system, eliminate collection malpractices and will benefit the vendors in terms of speeding up payment and ensuring integrity in transactions.

Onboarding services from the financial services providers were first undertaken in mid-August of this year.
