FOLLOWING closures brought about by both the recent July quake and the inclement weather experienced by the country, the Joint Inter-Agency Task Force Kennon (JIATFK) has issued an advisory temporarily reopening the road to traffic on a limited basis.

Currently, the Kennon Road is closed, but starting on Sunday, September 19, it will reopen temporarily for specific traffic flows.

“In view of the improvement of the weather situation in the Cordillera Administrative Region (CAR), particularly in the Benguet-Baguio City area, and in consideration of the present heavy traffic situation in national roads leading to Baguio City, e.g. Marcos Highway, Kennon Road will be temporarily reopened,” the advisory reads.

The traffic scheme imposed a 5:00 A.M. Sunday to 5:00 A.M. Monday opening for outbound Manila-bound traffic only, while for the rest of the week the road is open for all motorists inbound to Baguio City.

Residents are exempt from the imposition of schedules as always.

All motorists using the road are advised to observe the 30 kilometers per hour speed limit. Additionally, vehicles with more than five tons of gross tonnage are disallowed from using Kennon Road.

The opening of the road is effective indefinitely, until such time that the JIATFK in coordination with the various local governments in the area find reason to close the road for safety purposes such as during inclement weather and landslides.
