BAGUIO Representative Mark Go has filed two bills in Congress for the putting up of centers for the city’s senior and persons with disabilities (PWD) populations.

House BIll 3924 intends to put up a wellness center for the Baguio City geriatric population, which includes the provision of living accommodations, healthcare specifically for seniors, and community initiatives to build a community among the city’s senior citizens for psychological wellbeing.

“While the Constitution maintains that the family is responsible for caring for their elderly, many Filipino elderly simply do not have family members who can support them in their advanced age, especially in terms of their health and psychosocial needs. This wellness center will contribute to addressing the gaps in our social protection system,” Go said.

Meanwhile, HB 3922 is intending to do the same for the city’s PWD population.

HB 3922 would see the put-up of a community center for the city’s PWDs and differently-abled citizens that would provide access to shelter, education, and training programs aimed at increasing their livelihood and employment opportunities.

“The differently-abled are among the most vulnerable in our society. We want to offer not only a comfortable place for them to live, but also offer specialized training programs that will help them reach their full potential,” Go said.
