THE Department of Education- Cordillera (DepEd-CAR) lauded its smooth return to face-to-face classes this week as the region posted a 92 percent attendance of enrolled students in the various schools.
Cyrille Gaye Miranda of the DepEd-CAR Public Affairs Office said that 92.64 percent of the target 448,205 learner population from kindergarten to senior high school enrolled in public and private schools in the region this year, amounting to some 415,211 learners.
In terms of attendance percentages, all of the CAR territories saw high attendance figures. Benguet recorded 98.11 percent, Ifugao at 97.08 percent, Mountain Province at 93.81 percent, Baguio City at 92.89 percent, Apayao at 90.61 percent, Tabuk City with 87.34 percent, and Abra at 83.75 percent.
Some 2,570 students are also enrolled in the Alternative Learning System (ALS).
However, not all is smooth sailing as Baguio City Schools Superintendent Federico Martin revealed that only five out of the city’s 67 public elementary and high schools are able to conduct daily in-person classes due to damage from the July 27 earthquake that hit Abra. The rest are using blended or remote learning instead.
Funds have already been set for the repairs and the hiring of additional personnel to bring the schools back to full capability.
