THE fight against dengue fever in Baguio City continues as new cases and clustering in the city’s various barangays have increased yet again even after three weeks of intensified anti-dengue operations.

City Health Services Office (CHSO) data shows that 10 new barangays have reported clustering or having two or more active dengue cases within two weeks compared to last week’s figures.

CHSO Head Dr. Rowena Galpo said that there are now 49 barangays with dengue fever clustering, as opposed to 39 from last week.

With 53 new active cases, the city has more than doubled its dengue fever case count from the same period last year from the start of January to July 2. The city has a case count of 734 to date, compared to only 342 in the same period last year.

The city has also seen its first reported dengue death, a ten-year old boy from City Camp Central.

With the increasing number of cases and the start of dengue-related deaths recorded, the city is intensifying efforts once again to forestall the disease.

Some 1.873 tires, tagged as a potential breeding ground for mosquitoes, have been collected by the General Services Office (GSO) as part of the anti-dengue operations.

The city is also to provide insecticide-treated curtains to some eight elementary schools and five high schools in barangays with clustering and high case counts.
