STARTING July 1, the minimum fare for jeepney rides in the Cordillera Administrative Region (CAR) will be higher than before.

The increase in fares is part of a nationwide fare hike announced by the Land Transportation Franchising and Regulatory Board (LTFRB), effective on Friday.

In a June 29 decision, the LTFRB granted the petition of multiple transport groups for a fare hike in light of soaring gasoline and fuel prices.

The LTFRB subsequently issued a P2 fare increase across the country except for regions 3, 4, and the National Capital Region (NCR), bumping up the minimum fare to P11 for the first four kilometers of travel.

Modern jeeps, or those that had undergone the modernization program, also saw a fare hike from P11 to P13 for the first four kilometers.

“The Board is mindful of the present economic state of every Filipino brought about by the continuous rise in oil prices in the world market and the reeling effects of the COVID-19 pandemic,” the LTFRB said in its decision.

Meanwhile, in Baguio City, LTFRB-Cordillera has extended the duration of the free modernized jeepney ride program or the Service Contracting (SC) program to July 15.

The extension includes those operating under both the Gross SC or the Libreng Sakay and those operating under the Net SC.
