Claim: “Dilawans” are habitual fake news peddlers
Rating: FALSE
According to an article from ‘Pinoy Trending News’ written by an anonymous writer named ‘PTN’ pro-BBM and pro-Duterte supporters are always being accused to be fake news peddlers by mainstream media
It also quoted director and actor Manny Castaneda who asked who are indeed spreaders of fake news which implies that it was the other way around.

The Facts: The article did not have any factual evidence on the “debate” of who the real fake news peddlers are. It merely quoted some comments on Castaneda’s question. All of the comments blame the ‘dilawans’/’pinklawans’ being the fake news peddlers.
According to Tagalog.com, ‘Dilawan’ is originally a term used to describe the supporters of the Liberal Party that used yellow as its color symbol. At present, the Duterte administration and allies use it derogatorily toward anyone who expresses dissent towards them.

‘Pinklawan’ on the other hand is an evolved terminology. It links the liberal party to Leni Robredo who used pink as her color in the 2022 election. The term is used (mostly by Marcos supporters) as an insult to Robredo supporters

Contrary to these comments, a survey made by Vera Files shows that 94% of the 2022 electoral disinformation puts Robredo in a bad light while 90% of these disinformation placed Marcos in a positive light. https://verafiles.org/…/disinformation-attempts…
Another survey by Tsek.ph shows similar results in which Robredo is the target of 297 fact-checks made by the company while 191 of the fact-checked disinformation showed Marcos in a positive portrayal.

It should also be noted that Castaneda is a rabid DDS who quickly switched to the BBM camp.
Why we fact-checked this: In the age of mass disinformation in the Philippines we must be aware of the distinction between facts and opinions. Facts are supported by data and evidence. It will always be true even if the majority refuses to believe it. An opinion agreed upon by multiple people is still not considered factual.
