BAGUIO City launched the “Baguio Coffee and Rabbit Food Festival” on Friday, May 27 this year at the Igorot Garden.
Held by the city government and the the City Veterinary and Agriculture Office (CVAO), the festival is intended to showcase and promote both Baguio Arabica coffee and rabbit meat.
According to Silario Bested, head of CVAO, the festival showcase will last until June 3, from 6:00 in the morning to 7:00 in the evening.
Bested said that the festival is part of the city’s celebration of Urban Farmers and Fisherfolk’s Month pursuant to City Ordinance no. 35, series of 2018, “Institutionalizing the Conduct of Urban Farmers and Fisherfolk’s Month Celebration every May of every Year in the City of Baguio and providing funds thereof.”
The CVAO did not impose any entry fees for the event in order to encourage the public to come and patronize the products of the registered coffee growers and rabbit producers in the food fest.
The city has recently taken strides to improve rabbit production, with roughly 1,800 rabbits recorded in the city to date.
The city has also previously mulled the put-up of a rabbit-specific slaughterhouse facility worth P5 million as part of the bid to bolster the local rabbit production and processing industry.
