THE Philippine Health Insurance Corporation (PhilHealth) has accredited 12 rural health units in Baguio and Benguet, providing residents more options to claim medical benefits without having to go to a major hospital in the area.

10 district health centers in Baguio in Barangays Irisan, Lucban, Atok Trail, Pinsao, Pacdal, Camp 7, City Camp, Aurora Hill, Asin, and Pinsao, can provide services under the “Konsulta package” of Philhealth, according to PhilHealth Baguio’s Janet Palaez during a media forum on Wednesday.

She also said that two other facilities in Benguet have recently been accredited by the insurance corporation, allowing them to provide services as well.

“They (residents) can avail of the benefits of PhilHealth without going to the hospital if the rural health units can provide them the medical services they need,” Palaez said.

According to Palaez, while the major hospitals in all of the region’s provinces run both by government and the private sector have been accredited, the insurance company is working on accrediting smaller private healthcare facilities, such as clinics and laboratories as part of the 2019 Universal Healthcare Law (UHC).

“Under the UHC, our goal is to give all Filipinos immediate medical services. That is why we are accrediting rural health units to allow them to provide the service that will be covered by the PhilHealth benefit package,” Palaez said.

Palaez said that Baguio City currently has a 104 percent PhilHealth enrolment rate, including out-of-town patients.
