THE Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) reported completing over P1 billion worth of roadwork in the Cordillera Administrative Region (CAR) throughout 2021.

The P1 billion covers some 467 various road projects in the region, which amounts to a total of 64.8 kilometers worth of new roads.

However, the DPWH has yet to complete all of the projects slated for 2021.

The 467 various road projects are not all of the slated projects, with a total of 726 projects planned in the region.

“DPWH CAR has completed 467 out of the 726 programmed projects for 2021 with 256 projects still ongoing and three projects to be started,” DPWH Secretary Roger G. Mercado said.

DPWH-CAR Director Khadaffy D. Tanggol also reported that the agency undertook the construction of 75 meters worth of bridges in the region costing P75 million.

Tanggol also reported the construction, repair, and maintenance of 28 flood control projects in the region worth P722 million.

The projects also include farm-to-market roads funded by the Department of Agriculture (DA), as well as road projects under the Tourism Road Infrastructure Program.

“Implementing these projects despite the manpower and quarantine restrictions in 2021 show not just our commitment to improving mobility and connection in the mountainous region of the Cordilleras but also in providing better access to services to the people,” Mercado said.
