THREE major Baguio university leaders have expressed their support for Vice President Leni Robredo’s presidential bid after over 100 current and former heads of schools, colleges and universities issued a statement supporting the candidate.

The three leaders are University of the Cordilleras (UC) Board of Trustees Chairman Ray Dean D. Salvosa, University of Baguio (UB) President Javier Herminio D. Bautista, and Saint Louis University (SLU) President Fr. Gilbert Sales of the Congregation of the Immaculate Heart of Mary (CICM).

According to Salvosa, the support for Robredo is consistent with the UC stand that it took when it awarded Robredo with an Honorary Doctorate in Law as a result of the vice-president’s track record of good governance and upholding human rights.

“Good leaders take their people where they want to go. Great leaders take their people where they ought to be. VP Leni is the great leader we need in this critical time of our nation’s life,” Salvosa said.

Meanwhile, Bautista and Sales also expressed support for Robredo, citing her and the efforts and platform of her slate in the provision of education for the people of the country.

“As educators, we strive to provide education to the most vulnerable of society. We see this care for the underprivileged from Leni and Kiko, as proven by their track record of documented work and private deeds,” Bautista said.

Sales expressed a similar position, saying that the tandem has shown a “concrete plan for the education sector, one that affirms the complementary roles of private and public education.”

The initial statement by the roughly 100 educators and school heads stated that the Philippine education sector’s challenges must be addressed by a hands-on government.
“Since addressing the above issues requires an Education President, we, the undersigned current and former heads of our respective schools, colleges, and universities, in our personal capacity, express our unequivocal support to the candidacy of Vice President Maria Leonor “Leni” Robredo for President and Senator Francis ‘Kiko’ Pangilinan for Vice President”, the statement said.
