CITY Social Welfare and Development Office (CSWDO) Chief Betty Fangasan revealed that some P3 million has been set aside in the 2022 Baguio City budget for the establishment and implementation of a city-run retirement home for the elderly.

Fangasan said that the P3 million is included in the CSWDO’s 2022 annual budget specifically for the development of a portion of a city-owned property in Balenben, Irisan where the city retirement home will be built.

Fangasan added that the retirement home is expected to rise at the end of next year as part of the city’s intent to aid the implementation of various programs, projects and activities for the welfare of the elderly in the city.

While the land has been identified and the money has been put aside, Fangasan said that the CSWDO is still preparing the master plan for the retirement home in the Balenben lot, which will also be home to other social welfare projects.

According to Fangasan, the final plans for the retirement home will be available by the end of this year, allowing the city to start downloading funding and implementing the project as soon as possible in 2022.

Also to rise in Balenben is the Halfway House for women that will serve as a haven for abused women and children worth P5 million, provided by the Department of the Interior and Local Government (DILG). Said facility is already ongoing construction.
