UB wins ASEAN contest

THE University of Baguio romped off with the overall title in the 54th ASEAN Day Celebration Contest for Cordillera held last August 16 to 25.

Because of the restrictions caused by the COVID-19 protocols, the contest was held virtually. 

The University of Baguio won in essay writing, spoken word poetry and online chorale categories.

Joshua Nico V. Bati’s essay, Greater ASEAN, Championing HEI’s role in achieving a more resilient and prosperous ASEAN Region, won in the essay category, followed by Desiery Antonio of Pines City College and Lelaiza S. Sama of Benguet State University. 

John Rev Gat-eb of UB also won in the Spoken Word category. January Jera Biares of Divine Word College of Bangued placed second while Nickson Wayne Bolla of the University of the Cordilleras got third place. 

The UB Voices Chorale conducted and trained by Glenn Gaerlan was the only participant in the Online Chorale and was automatically adjudged as first. 

Saint Louis University won in two categories, winning in the Online Teaching and Poster Making categories. 

Jerson Jane Abril won in the category of online teaching, followed by Fe Balag of Baguio Central University and Jamby Baldago of UB.

Aezervantes M. Alboc also of SLU snatched the poster-making title, with Edmond Gestiada of UB at second and Rose May Formoso of DWCB at third place.

Judges for the contest were Mau Victa, Delmar Carino, Alfred Dizon, Weigh John Tamayo and Frank Cimatu. – by Frank Cimatu
