NEWS that Arjo Atayde and Mayor Magalong have kissed and made up barely made it to the local media.

One, because it was totally expected.

Second, because our mayor is a dugong artista and will indeed let bygones be bygones.

So now Baguio is again a free country for movie productions.

This may be fine –  but then artistas are one of the most stubborn when it comes to wearing facemasks. They simply do not want the anonymity wearing masks gives them. They are chosen because they are pretty and handsome. So why cover our assets, they must be thinking.

Also, many lack brains because they think so.

Look at Angel Aquino. She came at the same time as Tim Yap did in January. But few noticed her because she and her eventual husband covered their faces with masks.

Tim Yap didn’t because he was vain and wanted Baguio to pay for his birthday bash.

So that became a superspreader event and guess what? Mayor Magalong and his wife were seen having a picture with Tim Yap. Never mind if his eyes looked like that of a deer in front of an onrushing car.

Well, that ended well. Everything was forgiven and is now forgotten.

Last year, it was Bb. Joyce Bernal and Piolo Pascual. Sagada horrifyingly slammed the door to their faces (after spending the night naman doon) but Baguio welcomed them.

They said they wanted Duterte to promote Baguio.

Tim Yap said he only wanted to promote Baguio City.

Like we needed promotion

Even if we have the strictest of protocols, people will still come to Baguio to breathe the fresh air (kunwari), walk in the park and feel the cold (maybe the cold hearts of the residents).

More than 300 people have been turned back lately for forging fake IDs so they can come in.

We don’t need to promote Baguio.

Our tourism industry suffered but if the people behind were wise enough, they could have done feasibility projects and innovations to beat the COVID blues. They could have done repairs and rehabilitation like some resort cities did.

But they didn’t.

All they did was pressure Magalong to open the city and harp about lost income.

We all know that COVID-19 is the villain and we can’t do anything about that.

It’s not the end of the world. Some of the Star Wars episodes ended with the bad guys winning but that didn’t end the narration, didn’t it?

They actually made the viewers anticipate more.

Develop new storylines. Create new characters. Sharpen your skills. Heighten the drama.

Maybe you will win an Oscar. Or become mayor again.
