BAGUIO City Councilor Betty Tabanda is pushing for the implementation of discounts from the city’s various business establishments for fully vaccinated residents as an incentive to get more locals to sign up for the vaccine.

In a resolution, Tabanda encouraged the city’s business establishments to provide discounts to clients who are able to provide documentation of their full vaccination.

The move is intended to supposedly allay continued reluctance against vaccination in spite of the Department of Health and the local government’s information drives.

The move is not the first of its kind, with various government officials and offices encouraging and exploring different incentive systems to get more people to vaccinate.

In the National Capital Region (NCR) plus bubble, some 188 food establishments are already providing discounts for fully vaccinated customers.

The Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE) has also instituted local incentives to its workers, providing bicycles and mobile phones to employees who get fully vaccinated.

Meanwhile in Las Piñas, Representative Camille Villar has initiated much more grand incentive plans, raffling off a house and lot, motorcycles, and livelihood showcase packages to lucky vaccinated locals.

At the same time, House Bill No. 8280, in the works in Congress, would incentivize vaccination by the provision of a “vaccine passport,” which would allow much more free and unrestricted travel to locals who are fully vaccinated.
