THE Department of Agriculture-Cordillera (DA-CAR) has released assistance for members of the city’s growing urban agriculture industry.

DA-CAR director Dr. Cameron Odsey said that the department has provided some P10 million worth of livestock livelihood assistance to members of the city’s urban agriculture industry.

The funding is primarily for displaced backyard swine farmers who have been barred from raising hogs, rabbit-mongers, and beekeepers.

Of the total, P5.84 million would be spent for chicken raising, P1.86 million for rabbit raising, and P2.3 million for beekeeping.

At the same time, the DA-CAR has also provided some P275,000 worth of vegetable seeds and farming tools, as well as P204,500 of assistance for the city’s various schools for use in converting their unused spaces for cultivating plants and vegetables.

Baguio City’s hog-raisers, rabbit raisers, and beekeepers are the latest in the Cordillera region to receive assistance from the DA-CAR, which has been providing assistance to the agriculture industry across the region.

Along with the provision of funding, the DA-CAR previously launched a trade fair in Baguio in support of the city’s urban farmer population.

There are also plans to close down Session Road in Baguio on Sundays to showcase the city’s agricultural products, also in support of the industry.
