BAGUIO City on May 12, Wednesday, launched the two-week Agri-Tourism Trade Fair at the Igorot Garden in the central business district.
The fair is one of multiple initiatives and moves to support Baguio’s growing urban farmer and fisherfolk population in partnership with the Department of Agriculture (DA).
The fair is slated to last until May 25, and is expected to showcase two batches of participating Baguio-based urban farmers and fisherfolk throughout the duration of the activity.
Dr. Brigit Piok, head of the City Veterinary and Agriculture Office (CVAO), said that in addition to the trade fair, other activities have already been conducted in partnership with the DA, and more are to come during the month.
The other projects include two Farmers’ Sunday Showcase along Session Road on May 23 and 30 respectively, as well as workshops for community-based agriculture and agri-tourism slated to take place later in the month.
Various areas in the city are also slated to see a cleanup drive and coffee tree planting activity.
Among previous actions undertaken by the DA to bolster the city’s urban fisherfolk is a provision of fish fingerlings conducted in several portions of Baguio, in partnership with the Bureau of Fisheries and Aquatic Resources (BFAR) on May 7.
The DA also previously held a community pantry in Irisan in partnership with the urban farmers of Baguio.
Additionally, the DA has provided the city with a P10 million fund for its various urban agricultural projects.
