THE construction of a P11.86 kilometer farm-to-market road connecting parts of Apayao to markets in the region is underway.
The road, which costs some P195 million to construct, is expected to be finished next year and would primarily benefit three barangays in Flora, Apayao – Barangays Santa Maria, Mallig and Upper Atok.
The project is primarily funded by the World Bank-supported Philippine Rural Development Project (PRDP), with a 10 percent counterpart fund coming from the Apayao government.
Apayao Governor Eleanor C. Bulut-Begtang says that the road is expected to attract better market opportunities to the region’s farmers, as well as open up investment and livelihood opportunities in the area.
The road is one of several infrastructure projects that Apayao has begun work on during the pandemic.
Other projects alongside the program include the establishment of a warehouse in the municipalities of Sta. Marcela, Luna, Flora, Calanasan and Pudtol; a coffee processing center in Calanasan; and a multipurpose banana trading center in Barangay Poblacion, Flora town.
