MAJOR hospitals in Baguio City are currently facing issues in handling the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic, with all five of the city’s major hospitals having to face “critical” utilization rates.

According to City Health Officer Dr. Rowena Galpo, the five hospitals are all experiencing at least 85 percent health care utilization rates, which indicates the rate of usage of the facilities’ ward beds, isolation beds, intensive care unit (ICU) beds, and mechanical ventilators.

SLU Hospital of the Sacred Heart, Baguio Medical Center, and Pines City Doctors’ Hospital have reported 100 percent utilization rates, while Baguio General Hospital and Medical Center and Notre Dame de Chartres Hospital had 92.31 percent and 96 percent, respectively.

The city’s isolation facilities are meanwhile less strained but are still seeing relatively high utilization rates, with the Baguio Community Isolation Unit at the former Sto. Niño de Jesus Medical Center at critical risk with 91.6 percent of its beds currently occupied.

The Temporary Treatment and Monitoring Facilities are seeing 68.16 percent utilization rate or bed capacity usage, while the Roxas Hall Isolation Facility Teachers’ Camp with 316 beds is at moderate risk with 66.45 percent of its beds occupied.

The four other isolation facilities including Magsaysay Hall Quarantine Facility at Teachers’ Camp, Laurel Dorm, Central Triage Quarantine Facility at Baguio Convention Center, and one out of 12 are all tagged as low-risk in terms of utilization rate.

Currently, only 248 isolation beds are available to the city.
