THE Department of Health – Cordillera (DOH- CAR) is shooting for the vaccination of some 3,608 health workers in the region during the rollout of the Chinese Sinovac jabs on Sunday, March 7.

According to DOH-CAR Assistant Regional Director Dr. Amelita Pangilinan, the number of health workers is taken from a previous vaccination registration held among major hospitals in the region.

Of the 3,608 health workers, 1,871 are from Baguio General Hospital and Medical Center (BGHMC); 629 from Luis Hora Memorial Hospital in Bauko, Mountain Province; 560 from Benguet General Hospital; 326 in Kalinga Provincial Hospital; and 222 in Bontoc General Hospital in Mountain Province.

However, the vaccines are only for certain portions of the actual workforce of the hospitals that are expected to directly interact with potential carriers of the COVID-19 disease, and not for the entire workforces of the hospitals.

For instance, BGHMC has a total workforce of 2,728 people but only 1,871 are set to receive the jabs.

The vaccine doses of the Chinese Sinovac are expected to arrive in the region on Saturday, where they will then be shipped off to the designated hospitals in the region.
