SPORTS will also have a part in the “creativeness” of this “Creative City Network” member with the launching of two mural projects at the Baguio Athletic Bowl.
“I will be happy to do the mural,” said mixed martial artist Harold Banario, who is now an architect and an acknowledged artist.
The Team Lakay member, who last fought in December 27 last year where he lost to Gamzat Magodemov for a five-win, two-loss record, is happy to undertake the painting of his brother Honorio, Mark Sangiao, Eduard Folayang, and reigning ONE strawweight king, Joshua Pacio.
In 2018, the younger Banario launched his exhibit of Team Lakay members who went on to win titles in the ONE Championship.
“I’ll just do some primers and I will start painting. I still do not know what the outcome will be but I’ll know when I get started,” said the 5’9” warrior, who now designs and builds houses.
“I want something fluid, in action if possible,” added Banario, who will also paint former ONE champions Geje Eustaquio and Kevin Belingon, former PXC champion Crisanto Pitpitunge and reigning Brave FC bantamweight champion Stephen Loman.
There were three Banarios in the Team Lakay once, Dario has then stopped fighting while Harold stopped for four years after losing to Mark Abelardo in June 13, 2015 to concentrate on his studies.
The Team Lakay mural will be done at the wall below the 90-foot cypress tree in front of the north side of the grandstand. It will be side by side with the dugouts of the long stage where faces of sports legends and soon to be great in Baguio and Cordillera sports lore will be placed.
Gladys Ann Labsan, who has done the Heroes Portrait of the Baguio – Cordillera Athletes seen at the Porta Vaga Mall and at the Baguio Museum will be doing the faces of two time Olympians Hector Begeo (track) and the late judoka Jerry Dino.
Gintong Alay and former Southeast Asian Games javelin queen Erlinda Lavandia and boxing great Rey Tam will be among the sports legends whose faces will grace the seven by 11 feet walls of the dugouts at the long stage of the big grandstand of the sports complex.
They will be joined by two-time world taekwondo poomsae champion Jeordan Dominguez and Divine Wally, who won the three cornerstones of wushu sanda competitions – World Wushu Championship, Asian Wushu Championship and World Cup of Sanda.
The seventh is Brent Velasco, a three time world muay thai champion.
Meanwhile, the photos of SEAG gold medalists Dominguez, Wally, Mark Streigl (sambo), Stephanie Sabalo (dance sport), Jearome Calica (muaythai waikru), Sandi Menchi Abahan (OCR), arnisadores Crisamuel Delfin, Elmer Manlapas and Abegail Abad and kickboxers Jean Claude Saclag and Gina Iniong that are taken by Eliza Consul of ELX Photography will be put on display on October 19 at the Baguio City Hall lobby.
The other athletes are: silver medalists Islay Erika Bomogao, Jenelyn Olsim and Rusha Bayacsan of muay thai, Jomar Balangui of kickboxing; and bronze medalists Daniel Parantac and Jones Inso of wushu taolu and Eza Rai Galang of arnis.
A total of 30 athletes will be featured, with 26 members of indigenous peoples in the Cordillera.
