THE Rotary Club of Baguio Summer Capital (RCBSC) is lending its assistance in curbing polio and measles in the city.

The club is pushing for an awareness campaign in order to convince parents of children that the measles-rubella and polio vaccines are safe and should be given to children.

According to RCBSC President Tolits Villanueva, parents have fears over the quality of these vaccines due to false information, thus necessitating an information drive to allay the fears.

RCBSC is also pushing for the conduct of a World Polio Day as part of the campaign to spread awareness and to encourage parents to have their children undergo vaccination.

World Polio Day has been set for October 24 in Baguio.City.

RCBSC Chapter President Virgilio Bautista emphasized the need for awareness for vaccine-preventable diseases like measles and polio.

The Department of Health-Cordillera office (DOH-CAR) has recorded 395 cases of measles in the region with zero deaths, a 62 percent decrease compared to 1059 cases in the same period of January to September in 2019.

DOH-CAR is part of phase 1 of the nationwide measles-rubella polio vaccination campaign, which is set to conduct its regional vaccination campaign from October 26 to November 25, 2020. The second phase is set to be conducted in February next year.
